Ever since the Giants lost free-agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval to the Red Sox, they've been connected to almost every big bat on the market.

They made a move Friday to replace Kung Fu Panda, acquiring third baseman Casey McGehee from the Marlins.

Miami will receive minor league pitchers Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo. The teams announced the trade early Saturday.

McGehee, 32, is entering his seventh major league season. He batted .287/.355/.357 in 2014 with four home runs and 76 RBIs in 160 games with the Marlins last season.

Over his career with the Brewers, Pirates, Yankees and Marlins, McGehee has a .264 average with 65 home runs and 359 RBIs. His most successful season came in 2010, when he produced career highs in home runs (23) and RBIs (104).

Sandoval, four years younger than McGehee at 28, signed with the Red Sox for five years and $95 million earlier in the offseason.

McGehee projects as a poor man's Sandoval both on defense and at the plate, but he is considered to be better than the Giants' in-house replacement candidates.
