MLB rumors: Royals, Mariners and Indians interested in Alex Rios

Alex Rios

The Mariners, Royals and Indians have all reached out to free-agent outfielder Alex Rios, according to CBS Sports reporter Jon Heyman

The Mariners, who have also reportedly expressed interest in Matt Kemp, are looking to solidify their outfield. They've already signed outfielder/DH Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $57 million deal this offseason.

The Indians, who are "guardedly optimistic" in trading for Oakland slugger Brandon Moss, are likely only interested in Rios if the Moss talks fall through.

The Royals, on the other hand, may be more interested in signing a greater offensive presence to an outfield that batted .272 collectively this season. They've already lost Josh Willingham to retirement and aren't a lock to re-sign outfielder Norichika Aoki.

Rios batted .280/.311/.398 with four home runs in 131 games in 2014 with the Rangers before his season ended with a thumb injury.

Rios, who turns 34 in February, has 1,680 hits, 762 RBIs, 244 stolen bases in his career, while batting .278.
