MLB trade rumors: Phillies, Angels have discussed Ben Revere

Ben Revere

THE RUMOR: The Phillies and Angels have been talking about a trade involving outfielder Ben Revere.

THE DETAILS: The speedster is making $4.1 million this season and will not become a free agent until after the 2017 season. With plenty of outfield talent in the farm system, including converted third baseman Cody Asche and one-time blue chipper Domonic Brown, Revere could be the odd man out moving forward.

THIS SEASON: After getting off to a slow start, Revere is batting .258/.302/.340 with 17 runs scored and nine stolen bases. He swiped 49 bags last year to go with a .306 average.

SN'S TAKE: It's no secret the Phillies are in rebuilding mode. The team unloaded outfielder Marlon Byrd, shortstop Jimmy Rollins and reliever Antonio Bastardo during the offseason and are willing to deal ace Cole Hamels for the right price.

With left fielder Matt Joyce batting a dismal .155/.203/.236, the Angels can use an offensive spark. They also could use a younger, quicker outfielder to cover the spacious Angel Stadium. Revere could make an instant impact on an Angels squad that is 21-19 and 5 1/2 games behind the Astros in the AL West.
