Duke right-hander Michael Matuella will miss the remainder of his junior season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament that will require Tommy John surgery, Baseball America reported Wednesday.

Matuella is the top draft-eligible college pitcher and a projected top-five pick but many questions concerning his health have been raised. In addition to his recent elbow injury, he has also dealt with back problems, specifically spondylosis, a combination of pain and degeneration in the spine.

Matuella started six games this season, throwing 25 innings with a 1.08 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
