Mayweather’s defensive prowess was just too much for Pacquiao, who was the aggressor throughout.

In terms of adrenaline inducing excitement, it didn’t come close to the Hagler-Hearns war of 30 years ago, but it was a showcase for the two greatest boxers of the era.

The casual boxing fan would have been let down, but for the aficionado, it had everything.

It was a slow-paced first few rounds, with Pacquiao doing most of the offense and Mayweather’s defence keeping him out of trouble.

Mayweather’s customary short right hand cross was on show as Pacman attempted to back “Money” into the corner and use his speed to score.

Pacquiao had Mayweather in trouble in the fourth, jamming him against the ropes and wailing away to win the round.

Pacquiao was busier through the middle rounds and won a couple, but, true to form, Mayweather was calculated, shrugging off Pacquiao’s bombs with a smile.

Mayweather’s corner was increasingly concerned in between rounds, with Floyd Snr telling his son “they’re gonna take this fight away from you.”

Junior responded like a champion.

Mayweather landed his shots on the counter and was too evasive through the championship rounds and Pacquiao grew increasingly frustrated in searching for the decisive blow.
