ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has close ties with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Before the fight of the century between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, the undefeated boxer gave an exclusive interview with Smith in which the two toured his house and chatted. That close bond means Smith can get rare access to Mayweather, including an interesting text message.

Here's how ESPN2's First Take broke the news on the show:

If Mayweather really means it, this is huge news. The original fight took years to actually develop and now fans could watch it twice. Although judging by the reaction following Saturday's match, fans may not want to watch it again.

Mayweather won the match in a unanimous decision. After the fight he said he would fight one last time in September of next year. He has one fight left on his deal with Showtime/CBS.

It could just be that Smith wants another reason to hang out with 50 Cent on stage, like he did over the weekend.
