Looking to go young at second base, the New York Yankees on Friday traded away Martin Prado.

The team announced it is shipping Prado and pitcher David Phelps to the Miami Marlins for right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Domingo German and first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones.

In a separate move, the Yankees acquired right-hander Gonzalez Germen from the Mets and designated right-hander Preston Claiborne for assignment.

Prado, 31, batted .282/.321/.412 in 2014, splitting time between the Diamondbacks and Yankees. In 27 games with the Yanks, Prado hit seven home runs and drove in 16 runs.

With Prado on the move, 2015's starting second baseman in Yankee Stadium will either be 25-year-old Jose Pirela or 23-year-old Rob Refsnyder. The Yankees drafted Refsnyder in the fifth round of 2012 draft. Both players hit .300 or better at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season, but neither has played a game in the majors.

Eovaldi, 24, has a fastball hits the upper 90s but went 6-14 last season and had a 4.47 ERA. He allowed a National League-high 223 hits in 199 2/3 innings.

Jones offers the Yankees a healthy bat to further offset the uncertainty surrounding Alex Rodriguez.

Jones, 33, batted .246/.309/.411 in 2014 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs. Most appealing about Jones, he played in no fewer than 144 games in a season since 2010 with the Pirates.

German, 22, was 9-3 with a 2.48 ERA in 25 starts for high Class A Greensboro last season.
