Marcus Lattimore is going back to South Carolina.

The former Gamecock star is returning to Columbia as an ambassador for the school’s football program according to The State . Lattimore will serve in the unnamed position as he completes his degree in public health.

“I’ll most likely work with the university, Coach (athletics director Ray) Tanner, President (Harris) Pastides, Coach (Steve) Spurrier, whatever they need me to do,” Lattimore said.

Lattimore retired from the NFL last month with having ever played a down of pro football. Despite being drafted by the 49ers, hasn’t played since a gruesome injury against Tennessee back in 2012.

“I told him he’s got a home here in Columbia, the University of South Carolina, and he knows that,” said South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier. “He’s a wonderful young man, and he’s coming back, hopefully soon, and maybe he can add a lot of inspiration to South Carolina like he did when he was a player here.”
