League One Review: MK Dons hit Crewe for six, Swindon crush Sheffield United

Midfielder Dele Alli celebrated his new and improved Dons contract with a hat-trick for Karl Robinson's side as they hammered bottom club Crewe Alexandra 6-1 to surge into second place ahead of Peterborough United, who suffered a 1-0 defeat at Yeovil Town through Joel Grant's winner two minutes from time.

Meanwhile Swindon continued their strong start to the campaign on Saturday with a superb 5-2 victory over Sheffield United.

A brace from striker Michael Smith and Jonathan Obika effort put Swindon in command before Mark McNulty and Ben Davies hit back for the visitors.

But Mark Cooper's men made the points safe late on through goals from Andrew Williams and Louis Thompson.

A total of 35 goals were scored on an enthralling day in England's third tier that saw leaders Bristol City held to a 3-3 draw at Fleetwood Town.

Kieran Agard netted twice and Aaron Wilbraham was on target to give the table-toppers a 3-1 advantage after Josh Morris had put Fleetwood ahead, only for the hosts to launch a fightback that was completed when Stephen Dobbie equalised in the 89th minute.

Doncaster Rovers ended a three-match winless run in another thriller by beating Chesterfield 3-2, while Port Vale made a winning start to life after Micky Adams – who resigned from his post as manager on Thursday – as defender Mark Marshall popped up in the 89th minute to secure a 2-1 triumph over Barnsley.

Leyton Orient claimed only their second league win of the campaign with a 2-1 away success at Scunthorpe United, Rochdale beat Coventry City 1-0 and Preston North End were 2-0 winners versus Crawley Town.

Elsewhere, the games between Colchester United and Bradford City, Gillingham and Walsall and Notts County and Oldham Athletic all ended goalless.
