It was a big day for baseball in Chicago on Monday, as the Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 before the White Sox claimed a walk-off win against the Cleveland Indians.

With the Cubs also adding young shortstop Addison Russell to their senior roster, it was an exciting day for Chicago-based baseball fans.

At PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Kris Bryant had three hits from four at-bats for three RBIs - including an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning, thanks to an error from Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli - to set up the Cubs' win.

Later at US Cellular Field, the White Sox trailed 3-0 midway through the ninth inning, but a walk-off single from Melky Cabrera saw Tyler Flowers score the clinching run in a 4-3 victory.

Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham also notched RBIs in the final inning.

The San Diego Padres accumulated 17 hits in their 14-3 thrashing of the Colorado Rockies, while the Kansas City Royals cruised past the Minnesota Twins 7-1.

The Boston Red Sox also won 7-1, accounting for the Baltimore Orioles, while the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 and the Oakland Athletics triumphed 6-3 at the Los Angeles Angels.

In other results, the Houston Astros prevailed 7-5 against the Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers edged out the New York Yankees 2-1.

IMPACT PLAYERS
Derek Norris, San Diego Padres: Norris was an integral part of San Diego's 14-3 smashing of the Rockies. The catcher went three-for-five with three runs scored and an RBI.

Jorge Soler, Chicago Cubs: Soler had his second monster game of the season. He went four-for-five with two runs scored, raising his average to .320 in the early going.

Kendrys Morales, Kansas City Royals: Morales has been on fire so far this season, and remained that way Monday hitting two-for-four with two runs and two RBIs.

KEY INJURIES
Detroit Tigers closing pitcher Joe Nathan (elbow) is not expected to be ready for activation from the disabled list when first eligible on Wednesday.

Ben Zobrist (knee) will likely miss a couple more games for the Oakland Athletics after being given a cortisone shot Monday. He's been dealing with cartilage issues in his left knee for a while, and it flared up on him Sunday, forcing him from the game.

Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett could be headed for a disabled list stint with a sliced hand. Gennett injured his hand in the shower, and needed stitches.

REACTION
"This lineup is capable of doing that at any ballpark," Padres shortstop Clint Barmes said after his team crushed the Rockies by 11 runs.

"That was fun," Kris Bryant said after his trip around the bases against Pittsburgh.

"I don't ever remember ever running all around the bases like that before."

SURPRISE PERFORMER
Anthony DeSclafani pitched a gem for Cincinnati, allowing zero runs and just two hits in eight innings, while striking out five and walking just one batter. The win ended the Reds' four-game losing streak.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa was rocked for nine runs (seven earned) in just two innings in Colorado's big loss.

FACT OF THE DAY
The Tigers became the first team to reach 11 wins with a come-from-behind win against the Yankees.

A LOOK AHEAD
Lance Lynn and the St Louis Cardinals head to Washington to take on Gio Gonzalez and a Nationals team that is starting to get healthy. The Tigers will look to build on their win over the Yankees in Tuesday's second game of a four-match series. The New York Mets are riding an eight-game win streak and head home to face the surprising Atlanta Braves.
