Kom wins first boxing gold

Kom - a five-time world champion - claimed her maiden Asian Games gold medal by defeating Kazakh opponent Zhaina Shekerbekova.

The 31-year-old proved too strong, winning the bout 2-0 at the Seonhak Gymnasium in Incheon, despite losing the opening round.

China's Yun Junhua upstaged South Korean Park Jin-A in the women's lightweight final.

Park had to settle for silver after Junhua claimed a 2-0 decision, though she was not too displeased.

"I am really happy about winning a silver medal," said the 25-year-old.

In the women's middleweight class, North Korean Jang Un-Hui earned gold ahead of Chinese opponent Li Qian.

Japanese Takayuki Tanii produced an Asian Games record time to win the men's 50 kilometre race walk.

Tanii, who competed at the 2012 London Olympics but failed to finished, crossed the line in three hours, 40 minutes and 19 seconds to win gold.

South Korean Park Chil-Sung (3:49.15secs) took silver, while China's Zhendong Wang (3:50.52secs) was third.

The Philippines won their first gold in the men's BMC cycling event courtesy of Olympian Daniel Caluag.

Caluag, 27, triumphed in the motos ahead of Japanese Masahiro Sampei and China's Yan Zhu.

In the women's event, Thailand's Amanda Mildred Carr topped the podium.

Chinese pair Lu Yan and Peng Na finished second and third respectively.
