Kings too strong for Sharks, Rangers beaten

The Kings were beaten by the Arizona Coyotes in their opening hit-out last week, but the Los Angeles franchise have now won four games on the bounce after routing the San Jose Sharks 4-1.

Drew Doughty, Dustin Brown and Dwight King were all on target for the defending champions at Sap Center.

Anze Kopitar chipped in with two assists for the Kings, while goaltender Jonathan Quick made 16 saves in two periods.

Opposing goalie Antti Niemi was kept busy throughout, stopping 26 of 30 shots for the Sharks.

The Rangers - last season's finalists - were no match for the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

Matt Read starred with two assists and a goal as the Flyers recorded a 4-2 win.

Wayne Simmonds added a goal and an assist for Philadelphia.

In other results, the Calgary Flames shutout the Colorado Avalanche for a 2-0 triumph.

The New York Islanders overcame the Boston Bruins 5-3.

Goals from Cedric Paquette, Brett Connolly, Richard Panik, J.T. Brown and Nikita Kucherov led the Tampa Bay Lighting to a resounding 5-1 victory against the Dallas Stars.

Elsewhere, the Ottawa Senators lost 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets, while the St Louis Blues beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1.
