Justin Verlander left his last spring training start with cramping in his right triceps and will likely miss his first scheduled start of the season as he deals with soreness, according to The Detroit News.

The Tigers announced Monday that Verlander would miss his final spring training start Friday, and on Wednesday manager Brad Ausmus said “it’s a little bit of a stretch right now” to think Verlander would start next Wednesday against the Twins.

Ausmus said Verlander threw at 60 percent velocity from 60 feet Wednesday to work through the soreness and plans to throw again Thursday.

"He said it felt good. He still felt it a little bit but he definitely felt better," Ausmus said.

Verlander, who posted a 15-12 record and 4.54 ERA last season, has never been placed on the disabled list in his 10-year career.
