The Pirates reportedly have won their bid to negotiate a contract with South Korean infielder Jung-Ho Kang.

The club's successful bid, worth more than $5 million, was accepted Monday, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The deal gives Pittsburgh 30 days of exclusive negotiating rights to try to sign Kang.

The Mets, Giants and Astros were among other teams with reported interest in the shortstop.

Kang, 27, is the reigning MVP of the Korea Baseball Organization, hitting .356 with 40 home runs last season. He was posted by the Nexen Heroes, who accepted the Pirates' bid of $5,002,015.
