Jose Reyes exits game with soreness in left side

Jose Reyes

Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes exited Thursday's game against the Rays after aggravating an oblique injury. MLB.com reported after the game that he would miss the Jays' weekend series against the Braves.

Reyes, who told reporters he was initially hurt last week in Baltimore, exited after grounding out to second base in his first at-bat. He was holding his left side as he returned to the dugout.

"I'm going to take some days off and see with some rest if that calms down a little bit and see what happens," Reyes said, according to MLB.com.

MLB.com reported the injury affects Reyes only when the switch hitter bats left-handed.

Ryan Goins took over for the four-time All-Star, who began the season with a .324 average, five RBIs and three runs scored.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said before Thursday's game that Reyes, 31, was scheduled to sit out Saturday's game, and that resting Reyes in day games after night games on turf might become a regular occurrence.
