White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu will sit out Saturday's game against the Astros with a lingering finger injury that has been troubling him for a couple of weeks.

Abreu's finger became so irritated Friday night that manager Robin Ventura pulled him from Chicago's 6-3 victory against the Astros. And it was still swollen enough Saturday afternoon to prevent him from taking the field for pregame warmups.

An X-ray on the finger turned up negative, but in layman's terms, “It looked like he had an air hose stuck in his thumb,” Ventura told the Chicago Tribune. “(We’ll) treat it up and see what he can handle and go from there.”

Adam LaRoche will get the start in place of Abreu.

“I just hope we can get him back in the lineup — it’s pretty swollen,” LaRoche said. “We’ve gotta have him. Hopefully we can get him back in, whether it’s the DH or first or whatever.”

Abreu, the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year, has eight home runs in 46 games this year, with a batting line of .282/.340/.481.
