The paceman played in both Tests against Sri Lanka last month, but has been overlooked for the opening two matches of the series against India as Ben Stokes has been preferred.

Jordan has made an encouraging start to his international career and is eager to get his chance to help England level the series in the third Test in Southampton.

He told Sky Sports: "The squad were always going to come into play because you're playing five Test matches in six weeks and the guys are bowling a lot of overs as you saw.

"They had quite a flat pitch at Trent Bridge and then followed up by going straight into the field at Lord's and that’s never easy on the body, but the guys are recovering well and looking after their bodies as good as possible so we just have to see how it goes.

"All the bowlers are bowling as best as they can be and the guys are doing well so you never know what the selectors have in mind, but as I said if I get the nod then I hope to make an impact."

Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler is set to make his Test debut after Matt Prior announced that he will take a break due to injury problems that have plagued him.
