The 49ers have released Jonathan Martin, the man at the center of a bullying scandal with Richie Incognito two years ago in Miami, the team announced Thursday.

Martin was acquired just over a year ago in a trade from the Dolphins and appeared in 15 games in 2014 for the Niners, making nine starts.

Martin played under head coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford but now that Harbaugh is gone, the Niners apparently didn't see a fit for Martin on the roster.

Harbaugh left the 49ers following the 2014 season and is now the head coach at Michigan.
