It must be that time of year again. As successful as Jon Gruden’s broadcasting career with ESPN and Monday Night Football has become, rumors of him returning to the sideline are common.

The latest rumor, courtesy of CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, connects Gruden to the Titans (in the event Ken Whisenhunt bombs this season), pointing out Gruden's ties to the state. The Tennessee Volunteers, where Gruden, 51, spent the 1985-86 season as a graduate assistant, tried courting Gruden in 2012 to fill their head coaching vacancy, but as we all know, Gruden stuck with his cushy gig in the broadcast booth.

Maybe the lure of a potential team sale and a shiny new quarterback in Marcus Mariota, whom Gruden praised effusively leading up to the NFL Draft, will be enough to make the Super Bowl-winning coach trade in his broadcast headset for a coaching one.
