Veteran catcher John Buck announces retirement

John Buck

Former All-Star catcher John Buck announced Thursday he’s retiring after 11 years in the big leagues.

Buck, 34, began his career with the Royals and went on to play for the Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets, Pirates, Mariners and Angels.

He was attempting to make the Braves’ roster this spring before deciding to call it a career.

In 2010, Buck made the AL All-Star team as a member of the Blue Jays. He finished his career with 134 homers, 491 RBIs and a .234 average.
