Reports of $49M Michigan offer to Harbaugh may be inaccurate

Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh is not going to talk about Michigan, leading to more speculation about the 49ers coach's future.

There were multiple reports Wednesday that Harbaugh's alma mater made a six-year, $49 million offer to the former Wolverines quarterback. Harbaugh was asked about the report when he met with the media on Thursday.

"I only talk about the job that I have," he said, repeating the same non-answer he gave while at Stanford two weeks before he accepted the 49ers job.

"I've said that I'm going to finish this to the end," he continued. "My focus (is) the same as the players' focus, is the same as the coaches' focus — focus on the practice field, the focus in meetings, by the players, by the coaches and by me. That is our focus, this football game against the San Diego Chargers and playing well and winning. That's where our energy and focus is."

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman disputed Wednesday's reports, saying "the dollar figure is not close."

The 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention and are 7-7 with two games remaining. Harbaugh, who the led the 49ers to three straight NFC championship games and an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII, will likely be let go at the end of the season.
