Everybody has an opinion on where Jim Harbaugh should coach, including those closest to him.

The 49ers coach's family and friends have been "encouraging" him to accept the job as head coach at his alma mater, Michigan, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday.

Harbaugh, though, "is torn because his heart is in the NFL," sources told Schefter, and he'd like to see what other coaching opportunities arise.

Earlier in the week, the university reportedly offered Harbaugh a six-year, $49 million contract to replace ousted Wolverines coach Brady Hoke.

However, reports have surfaced  that the deal is actually somewhere between six and eight years, and it could be anywhere from $45 million to $49 million. Any contract in that range would still make Harbaugh one of the highest paid coaches in the college ranks.

Harbaugh, whose 49ers are 7-7 this season, is widely expected to be on his way out of San Francisco at season's end.
