With the NFL Draft coming up in a few weeks, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said he's open to the idea of drafting a future replacement for quarterback Tony Romo.

"We do have to look to the future relative to quarterback," Jones said to FOX Sports Southwest. "It's starting a timeframe where a guy could come in and be a good backup."

Jones noted that Romo, whose contract runs through 2019, was a backup for four years until he took over for Drew Bledsoe in the middle of the 2006 season.

"Look at how Romo evolved into the guy he is today," he said. "He did a little time with the clipboard."

The Cowboys have the 27th overall pick in the draft this year. Since it's unlikely they will get a first-round quarterback, Jones stated the organization should focus on some of the players slated to go in later rounds.

"We should really evaluate those lower rounds," he said. "We should feel good and I expect us to feel good about the third, fourth and fifth round picks."
