Reggie Bush has signed with the San Francisco 49ers and will now make it even more difficult for Jarryd Hayne to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

Bush was an instrumental figure in Hayne's move to the NFL after he publicly stated last year that Hayne could be a force on the gridiron.

"I think he'd do pretty well actually," Bush said last year.

"He's quick, he's elusive, he's powerful, he's fast, he has great vision and those are all the things you need to play running back in the NFL."

Reports emerged on Saturday that Bush will head back to his home state to play for a team that recently lost their star back, Frank Gore.

And those reports appear to have been confirmed by Bush himself, who tweeted: "The best is yet to come #49ers".

Bush will join Carlos Hyde in San Francisco's backfield and run-first offence. The former USC star will be a nice option for Colin Kaepernick to throw to.

After being released by the Detroit Lions, Bush drew interest from multiple teams. He visited the New England Patriots on Friday, but left without an offer.

Bush, 30, is entering his 10th season in the league in 2015. The former number two overall draft pick previously played for the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and most recently the Lions.

He has at least 40 receptions in every season but two.
