MORE: Where to next for Jarryd Hayne
Hayne was widely expected to come into the 49ers squad to play the St Louis Rams on Monday (AEST) with star running back Carlos Hyde being sidelined by foot stress fractures.
But San Francisco coach Jim Tomsula has decided to promote Kendall Gaskins from the practice squad instead of Hayne who's had problems with fumbles over the past few weeks.
So much for Jarryd Hayne filling in while Carlos Hyde recovers from foot injury. Wow. https://t.co/I3KQoB7lGG

Seattle Seahawks were hunting Hayne before he joined the 49ers and could be an option for the Aussie punt returner who is now on a 'waivers list' for the next 24 hours.
In that period any other team can pick him up, if they don't he'll return to the 49ers practice squad, and could easily transition back into their active roster from there.
Soon after the bad news, Hayne took to Twitter and showed an extremely positive mentality.
Blessed for another test. Thanks for the love TW. Wish my guys all the best against the Rams. if nothing happens Ill be back on Tuesday✌🏽

Hayne's US-based agent also took to Twitter to explain the process from here.

Jarryd will most likely be back to work on Mon or Tues either with the Niners or another team. he has to clear waivers now over next 48 hrs.

the NFL waiver system gives 31 other teams the right to claim a non vested player. the claiming order goes from current worst record to best

when teams waive a player on a Sat its usually a sign they r trying 2 sneak them thru waivers. harder 4 others 2 make claim over the weekend
