Jarryd Hayne destined to succeed in NFL according to college coach

Jarryd Hayne

University of California coach Sonny Dykes is convinced that Jarryd Hayne will not only force his way back onto the 49ers 53-man roster, but he will forge a successful career in the NFL.

Following Hayne’s signing to San Francisco’s practice squad in early November, speculation was rife that he would return to the NRL.

The former Parramatta Eel and two-time Dally M winner rejected those rumours however, insisting that his dream to play in the NFL had not wavered.

Now Dykes has thrown his support behind Hayne, insisting US football fans should prepare to see a lot more of the former NSW star.

“I think with his athleticism, his size and strength and ability to translate from rugby (league) to American football, to be able to do that, to make up for the lack of experience you have to be an exceptional athlete and I think that’s what he is,” Dykes said via The Daily Telegraph.

“He’s a guy who is big, fast and strong and he has learned quickly.

“He’s one of those guys whose skills continue to develop and I think at some stage he’ll end up making a big impact with an NFL team.”

What is interesting about Dykes’ comments is that he did not specify where Hayne would forge his career, suggesting that a potential change of clubs may be the import’s best option in order to succeed.
