Is the Padres' trade for Matt Kemp falling apart?

Matt Kemp's reported trade from the Dodgers to the Padres may in jeopardy.

The Padres, it seemed, were set to acquire Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz from the Dodgers on Dec. 11 in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal and a pair of pitching prospects. That deal may now fall through for reasons that are unclear, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday via Twitter.

Rosenthal quoted a Padres official as saying the team is "inconclusive" about a Kemp deal. When asked whether trade is in doubt, the official responded, "Not yet." Thursday is the deadline to complete the deal, according to Rosenthal.

The hiccup may be tied to Kemp's physical, which could have turned up red flags. Kemp underwent ankle surgery in October 2013. He also has suffered shoulder, knee and hamstring injuries in his career. Rosenthal tweeted that the Padres have not yet told the Dodgers that they have concerns.

Rosenthal later tweeted that the holdup might be a ploy by the Padres to restructure the deal.

Should the Kemp trade not happen, another deal could be affected.

The Dodgers reportedly acquired shortstop Jimmy Rollins from the Phillies earlier last week. Zach Eflin, one of the pitching prospects said to be heading to the Dodgers for Kemp, reportedly would be flipped to Philadelphia as part of the package for Rollins.

The Rollins trade has not been announced.
