Ian Poulter takes to Twitter like a bee to honey. Fans of golf usually don't have to look too hard to understand what's going through the mind of the outspoken Englishman.

Tuesday, Poulter bashed a writer on the social media site for criticizing his decision to skip the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship.

Derek Lawrenson, a reporter for the Daily Mail in England, criticized Poulter (as well as Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia) for not signing up to play in one of the European Tour's most prestigious events. Lawrenson went on to say Jordan Spieth was a class act for the way he handled the media after winning the Masters.

Poulter was born in Hitchin, England, which is located just over an hour away from Wentworth Club in Surrey, . Though Lawrenson called him a "fan favorite," Poulter took umbrage with the article, and fired a series of blasts on Twitter.

Later, Poulter apologized — sort of — and decided to move on.
