Lee took out the men's changquan with a score of 9.71 points, from Macau's Jia Rui (9.69) and Japan's Daisuke Ichikizaki (9.67).

The win signalled South Korea's first Wushu gold since at the Asiad since 2002, although Lee said he felt no anxiety of expectation prior to the competition.

"I felt just the right amount of tension. When the Korean spectators clapped and cheered, I got really pumped up," Lee said.

Predictably, China strengthened their muscle in the shooting on Saturday, winning the first gold medal of the Games on offer.

Guo Wenjun, Zhang Mengyuan and Zhou Qingyuan combined to win the women's 10 metre air pistol team event, while Zhang went on to win the individual event.

The Chinese men's 50m pistol team also took out gold, Pang Wei, Pu Qifeng and Wang Zhiwei standing atop the podium for the early medal tally leaders.

The individual gold went to India's Jitu Rai.
