Henderson: Liverpool are up for the cup

Jordan Henderson - CROPPED

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has issued a note of caution following the failure to beat Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup at Anfield by insisting that the club remain well placed to embark on a prolonged run in the competition after avoiding an upset.

Brendan Rodgers' men were held to a goalless fourth-round draw by Bolton on Saturday at the end of an afternoon during which Chelsea and Manchester City were sensationally dumped out at home by Bradford City and Middlesbrough respectively.

With Chelsea and City out, Liverpool fans will quietly fancy their chances of going all the way, with Henderson confident of progressing when the sides meet again in a replay.

"We're disappointed we didn't win because we had a lot of chances and dominated the game with the ball, but we couldn't find the back of the net," Henderson told the club's official website.

"But, at the same time, we're still in the competition.

"A lot of big teams have gone out.

"We're still confident we can go through. We've just got to focus on the next game now.

"They made it very difficult for us. In the first half, they were breaking away a little bit. But in the second half we controlled it much better.

"We had a lot of chances to win the game but just couldn't find the back of the net. The performance was good."

Next up for Liverpool is Tuesday's League Cup semi-final second leg at Chelsea, with the tie intriguingly poised at 1-1.

Henderson added: "It's a huge game, a big game for us.

"Hopefully, if we can put a performance in, we'll get the right result."
