Mattias Hargin denied Marcel Hirscher a 16th FIS Alpine World Cup slalom win as a faultless second run saw the Swede take victory in Kitzbuhel.
Hargin had trailed Hirscher by 0.42 seconds after the opening run in the Austrian resort, but he produced a brilliant second attempt to take his first World Cup win.
The 29-year-old crossed the line in 50.30secs in his final run to jump to the top of the leaderboard, and then had to watch on nervously as Alexander Khoroshilov and Hirscher took to the piste.
Khoroshilov was way off the pace as he slumped to sixth overall, while Hirscher fell away after being quickest in the opening sector to finish 0.49secs back in second.
Felix Neureuther (+0.63secs) picked up valuable points in third despite a less-than impressive second run, with Giuliano Razzoli (+0.77secs) and Fritz Dopfer (+0.82secs) completing the top five.
Neureuther's third place ensured he stays at the top of the slalom standings, although Hirscher has cut the deficit to 24 points with three races of the season to go.
In the overall rankings, it is Hirscher who continues to lead, and with 996 points he now has a 162-point cushion to Kjetil Jansrud.
