ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has close ties with Floyd Mayweather Jr, so much so that a text message was exchanged between the two men claiming a rematch with Manny Pacquiao could be on the cards.

Before the blockbuster fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao – which was won on points by the former in Las Vegas on Saturday - the undefeated American boxer gave an exclusive interview with Smith in which the two toured his house and chatted.

The welterweight bout has since been overshadowed by claims made by Pacquiao, who said a right shoulder injury prevented him from fighting at his best.

And Mayweather appears willing to step into the ring with the Filipino veteran once again, telling Smith: "I will fight him in a year after his surgery."

Mayweather won the match in a unanimous decision last week.

After the bout the 38-year-old said he would fight one last time in September of next year.

He has one fight left on his deal with Showtime/CBS.
