The Florida Panthers have a goalie problem, and they're looking to their fans to fix it.

Starter Roberto Luongo and backup Al Montoya both suffered injuries during the team's loss Tuesday night. The team called up veteran Dan Ellis and rookie Sam Brittain as replacements, but it still wants to add a fan for depth.

OK, so the fan will only be a backup goalie during practice for a day after winning a contest.

More details, via the team's website:

The Florida Panthers announced today the club’s plans for their “Goal of a Lifetime” contest that will give one lucky Panthers' fan the opportunity to sign a one-day amateur try-out and serve as Florida’s back-up practice goalie for a day.

“We are very excited to launch this contest and expect a great turnout for this ultimate fan experience,” said Florida Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko. “This contest provides our hockey community with the opportunity to earn a chance to skate with the Panthers and serve as the team’s back-up practice goalie for a day.”

The contest is open to people 18 or older. Applicants must submit resumes to be selected. The group will be pared down on March 16. From there, two finalists will be chosen to take part in a shootout during Florida's March 17 game against the Canadiens. The goalie who performs the best will suit up for practice with the club.

The contest may not solve the team's goalie issues, but it's a nice way of having fun with the situation and providing someone a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
