Anna Fenninger won the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup combined title in Bansko on Sunday to close to within 64 points of overall leader Tina Maze.

The Austrian led the way with a time of one minute and 12.73seconds from the opening super-G run in Bulgaria and made sure of triumph in the slalom section of the event, which she completed in 52.33secs.

That saw Fenninger finish with a total time of two minutes and 05.06secs, 0.39secs ahead of Maze, with Kathrin Zettel (2:06.12) completing the podium places in the only combined event of the campaign.

Fenninger and Maze are now poised for an exciting conclusion in the business end of the season.

"I didn't know I could ski so fast in the slalom — so I'm really happy for that," Fenninger said.

"I'm still behind Tina, but it'll be a big fight and I'm going to do my best."

Fenninger's performance was all the more impressive given the foggy conditions in Bansko, which saw Friday's super-G race postponed until Monday and Saturday's cancelled.

Lindsey Vonn opted not to attempt the slalom after finishing 24th in the super-G. The American leads the downhill and super-G standings and complained to the officials about the conditions.

"I didn't want to risk anything in the super combined," Vonn said.

"I've had too many injuries so I skied very conservatively. But, yeah, I made it to the finish."
