Mo Farah will begin his preparations for the World Championships in August by running the 3,000 metres at next month's Diamond League meeting in Doha.

The double Olympic champion confirmed his place in the race on Tuesday, with the May 15 race the start of his outdoor season in an important year.

Farah will defend his 5,000m and 10,000m titles in Beijing later this year, but success in Doha is at the forefront of the 32-year-old's mind.

"I've heard so many great things about the track, the crowd and the competition in Doha," said Farah.

"There are always very strong fields in the distances so this will be a great early season test on the track for me.

"I'm looking forward to a good performance."

Farah will be joined in the field by Kenya's Caleb Ndiku, Hagos Gebrhiwet of Ethiopia and his compatriot Yenew Alamirew.
