Plane trouble keeps Jeter from Michigan Sports HOF induction

Derek Jeter

Five-time Gold Glove Award winner and World Series champion Derek Jeter needed a different captain Thursday. The Kalamazoo native could not attend the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony due to plane trouble.

Per the Detroit News, two private planes both experienced "serious" mechanical issues and the 14-time All-Star could not make the trip from New Jersey's Teterboro Airport to the Hall of Fame ceremony at Detroit's MotorCity Casino.

According to Hall of Fame protocol, Jeter's induction will be delayed until 2016 when he can attend the ceremonies. He will join NHL great Mike Modano, who also couldn't attend this year's ceremony.

The rest of the star-studded 2015 class was in attendance, including Tom Izzo, Barry Larkin, Sergei Fedorov, Doug English, Aleta Sill and Sheila Taormina.
