As much as Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon wants to play for the Cowboys in his professional debut next season, the running back just doesn't see it happening.

Gordon, who spoke with the Cowboys at this month's NFL scouting combine and shares a close relationship with Jerry Jones, believes that DeMarco Murray is better suited for the job, the Dallas Morning News reported on Thursday.

“They’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do,” Gordon said. “If I were them, I would try to keep DeMarco Murray. He’s a phenomenal player.

“But that’s a tough decision because Dez (Bryant) is great, too. If they could find a way to keep both of them, that would be great.”

The Cowboys will have to wait and see what happens to Murray while he is a free agent before deciding to take Gordon with the No. 27 pick in this year's draft.

Gordon’s 40 time of 4.52 was fifth among running backs at the combine. He also earned the second fastest 20-yard shuttle (4.07 seconds) and the fastest 60-yard shuttle (11.0) time for a running back in the last 10 years.

Last season, Gordon rushed for 2,587 yards, the second-highest single-season total in FBS history. Additionally, he averaged 7.5 yards on 343 carries and had 32 touchdowns, 29 rushing.
