Derrick Rose will undergo surgery on the meniscus tear in his right knee on Friday, the Chicago Bulls announced on Thursday.
Head team physician Dr. Brian Cole will perform the surgery for Rose, who will have his third knee operation in the space of three years.
Rose went in for an MRI after experiencing pain in his right knee on Monday, which found that the 2011 NBA MVP suffered the same injury that ended his 2013-14 campaign.
No timetable for Rose's return has been determined.
Rose averaged 18.4 points and five assists in 46 games for the Bulls this season.
