Even though Hendrick Motorsports owns a record 22 wins at Martinsville Speedway, three of its best drivers Sunday had to work back from a series of incidents.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was complaining about strong vibrations and a broken shifter early in the race, then was involved in a multi-car wreck on Lap 228 that caused heavy damage to Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevy and sent him to the garage.

Jeff Gordon sped on pit road with just under 40 laps to go and was forced to start from the rear, while teammate Jimmie Johnson had issues throughout and finished 32 laps down.
