Turns out Derick Brassard was just obeying orders when he scored the game-winning goal against the Capitals on Saturday.

The Rangers center was pulled over by a New York City police officer in Manhattan prior to New York's Game 2 win over Washington in the second-round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brassard's new car had a license plate displayed on the back but not the front. Upon recognizing the playmaker, the officer let him go on one condition.

“Just make sure you win today,” the officer told Brassard, via the New York Daily News, before sending him on his way.

Brassard scored his fourth postseason goal 6:07 into the third period for a 3-1 lead just 10 seconds after he left the penalty box for interference. The goal held up as the game-winner in the Rangers' eventual 3-2 victory.

Washington will host New York for Game 3 on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET with the series even at 1-1.
