Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels has been hit hard in two of his three starts this year, yielding 10 earned runs in 18 innings. Even more troubling for the Philllies, he’s allowed an MLB-high seven home runs in those three starts.
Despite Hamels' slow start, the Phils aren’t ready to hold a fire sale to unload the 31-year-old All Star. General manager Ruben Amaro has been shopping Hamels around the league for months and reportedly has not lowered his asking price.
The Boston Globe reported Sunday that one National League general manager in discussions with the Phils about Hamels says the team’s asking price has not changed "one bit."
The Phillies are rebuilding this year, coming off a 73-89 campaign in 2014. The team unloaded outfielder Marlon Byrd, shortstop Jimmie Rollins and reliever Antonio Bastardo during the offseason.
Philadelphia has reportedly talked about Hamels with a number of teams, including the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, Dodgers, Cardinals and Padres. Yet the Phils’ request for a package of top prospects, including at least two "impact players," has scared away suitors thus far.
