The Blues and coach Ken Hitchcock have reached an agreement on a one-year contract, president of hockey operations and general manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday.

St. Louis appears to be content with Hitchcock after failing to win the Mike Babcock lottery. His contract was set to expire on June 30.

He has lead the Blues to three 100-point regular season campaigns, four straight postseason appearances and two Central Division championships.

Hitchcock, 63, is the fourth-winningest coach in NHL history with a 708-429-185 (.606) all-time regular season record.
