C.J. Spiller claims the Buffalo Bills have released him, with the team believed to have picked up LeSean McCoy.

"To me, I thought he was joking, just trying to play a joke on me because he’s a Patriot and I was a former Bill," Spiller said of former New England Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest, who broke the news to Spiller in the NFL Network green room.

"Then probably about five minutes later, [Bills] management called me and told me that they were going in that direction."

Spiller, 27, battled injuries last year and rushed 78 times for 300 yards and zero touchdowns.

"The game plan is still the same," Spiller said.

"The only thing is that I won’t be returning to Buffalo. I’m going to pick best situation that fits my style and I'm going to go to a team like I said all along: a team that wants me to be there."

Spiller was introduced on NFL Network as a "former Bill", but when another NFL Network host said, "We don't know that yet," Spiller responded by saying, "We pretty much know that."

The Bills traded for running back McCoy from the Philadelphia Eagles just hours before Spiller was released.

Linebacker Kiko Alonso was sent the other way.

Spiller later added that Eagles coach Chip Kelly "has [his] agent's number."

Alonso will be rejoining Kelly, who coached the linebacker at Oregon.

He was a second-round draft pick in 2013.

He recorded 87 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions during his rookie season.

He tore his ACL and missed 2014.

McCoy has made the Pro Bowl three times, including twice in the last two seasons.

He was the NFL's leading rusher in 2013.

McCoy started every game last year, but withdrew from the Pro Bowl because of a knee injury.
