Blackhawks, Flames into Conference semis as Islanders-Capitals goes seven

Duncan Keith - Cropped

The Chicago Blackhawks and Calgary Flames advanced to the Western Conference semi-finals in the Stanley Cup play-offs, while the Washington Capitals' series with the New York Islanders is going to game seven.

The Blackhawks sealed a 4-2 series win over the Nashville Predators, courtesy of a 4-3 win in game six on Saturday.

Chicago showed their play-off experience by never panicking despite trailing 3-1 during the first period.

Duncan Keith's goal with three minutes, 48 seconds remaining gave the 2010 and '13 Stanley Cup winners their first lead of the night, after Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane struck later in the first period to draw Chicago level.

"It wasn't a position we wanted to be in, but did a great job of getting ourselves back in the game... We had a couple great shifts in the third and a big-time goal by Duncs with Toews' line on the ice. It was a huge comeback," Kane said.

The Flames produced an even bigger comeback to see of the Vancouver Canucks - also 4-2 in the series - as they won game six 7-4.

Trailing 3-0 inside the first 10 minutes of the game, the Flames got hot in a nine-minute period either side of the first break - with Michael Ferland, Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau goals tying the scores.

Not going away, the Canucks regained the lead - but a four-goal final period from Calgary, including two final-minute empty-netters, saw them career into a Western Conference semi-final series against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Islanders downed the Capitals 3-1 in game six, with Cal Clutterbuck scoring what could be the final goal seen at Nassau Coliseum.

Ahead of game seven back in Washington, Islanders forward Matt Martin said his side will be working to ensure they return to their home ice at least one more time - as they are bound for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn next season.

"It was great to win in this building. We don't want it to be the last one. It's been home to me my whole NHL career. It's the best atmosphere to play in. They don't really make them like this anymore," Martin said.

The winner of game seven plays the New York Rangers in an Eastern Conference semi-final.

The Detroit Red Wings thrashed the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on away ice, to take a 3-2 lead in their series in the East bracket.

Petr Mrazek made 28 saves to earn the shutout for the Red Wings, while Jonathan Ericsson (two assists) was influential.

Ericsson assisted for Drew Miller and Pavel Datsyuk after Riley Sheahan's power-play opener, and Danny DeKeyser sealed it with an empty-netter late on.
