Cardinals and Seahawks poised for key divisional clash

ArizonaCardinals

Bruce Arians' Cardinals hold the best record in the NFL at 9-1, which they reached the for the first time since 1948 - when the franchise was based in Chicago - with a 14-6 win over the Detroit Lions last season.

By contrast, defending Super Bowl champion the Seahawks, winners of the NFC West division last year, have struggled to display the same consistency that led them to their first NFL title.

Seattle dropped to third in the division behind the San Francisco 49ers - who will aim to further their play-off chase with triumph over the Washington Redskins this weekend – following defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs and will need to bounce back against a side that ended their 15-game winning streak at CenturyLink Field in 2013 to have any realistic chance of retaining the division crown.

The NFL headlines heading into week 12 have been dominated by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Peterson has not featured since the opening week of the season after being charged with reckless assault of his four-year-old son and was suspended for the rest of the season on Tuesday, a decision he immediately appealed.

The struggling Vikings will attempt to focus on matters on the field and win their fifth game of the campaign, yet that will prove difficult against a Green Bay Packers team that has scored 108 points in claiming back-to-back victories over the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.

Green Bay can take sole possession of the NFC North lead with a win and a Lions loss at the New England Patriots, who have not lost at home since the AFC Championship game two seasons ago and hold the best record in their conference.

Philadelphia should be expected to atone for the 53-20 humiliation in Green Bay by beating the Tennessee Titans and will hope that the New York Giants can give them an assist in the race for the NFC East title with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Denver Broncos' hopes of sealing top seed in the AFC have been hit by two defeats in their last three games and are in line for another tough examination from a Miami Dolphins team still very much in the play-off hunt.

Denver could well have fallen into second place in AFC West by the time they take the field should the Chiefs overcome the winless Oakland Raiders on Thursday, while the St Louis Rams – victors over the Broncos last Sunday – will look to deal the San Diego Chargers' post-season prospects a blow.

The AFC North has proven to be the league's most entertaining division, with just half a game separating the last-place Cleveland Browns from leaders the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cincinnati will need to be at their best to further cement their place at the top with an away win against the Houston Texans, the Browns visit the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens visit the slumping New Orleans Saints.

Elsewhere, the Indianapolis Colts entertain the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Buffalo Bills host the New York Jets and the Bears meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
