Cam Newton declares nobody has ever been what he’s trying to be

Cam Newton knows scrutiny. Whether he’s being criticized for overthrown passes, body language on the sideline with a towel over his head or saying he considers himself as an "entertainer and icon," Newton is always under the microscope as an ultra-talented NFL quarterback who has yet to reach his full potential.

Newton’s latest words to be picked apart came in an interview with WCCB in Charlotte.

WCCB reporter Morgan Fogarty asked: "You have been called the NFL's greatest talent as well as the NFL's greatest unknown. Do you agree with that?"

Newton, as he seems to do, offered an answer that sounded much less humble than he may have intended.

"Absolutely not," he said. "And I say this with the most humility, but I don't think nobody has ever been who I'm trying to be. Nobody has the size, nobody has the speed, nobody has the arm strength, nobody had the intangibles that I've had.

"I'm not saying I'm the one-on-one type of person that this league will never see again. No, I’m not saying that — hear me out — I’m just saying that so much of my talents have not been seen in one person."

Yes, Newton is a physical freak under center at 6-5, 245 pounds. And yes, he has a rocket arm and nimble feet. But the Panthers may want their franchise QB to put his talents together and win a few more playoff games before tooting his own horn to this degree.
