The number of player withdrawals reached 12 from the original "committed field" list only a day before Thursday's opening round at TPC Four Seasons in suburban Dallas, ESPN.com reported.
A bright spot: Hometown favorite Jordan Spieth, who as a 16-year-old made the cut at the 2010 Byron Nelson, is in the field and scheduled to tee off at 3 p.m. ET.
However, past champion and world No. 8 Jason Day withdrew Wednesday after experiencing dizziness on the course. That came hours after Ian Poulter's withdrawal.

The event is among the PGA Tour's more popular, perhaps out of reverence for its late namesake and golf legend. However, it is being threatened by storms. TPC Four Seasons was inundated with rain, and more Dallas-area storms are possible during the event's four days.
