Free agent quarterback Josh McCown has signed a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, the NFL outfit announced on Friday.

Quarterback was a problematic position for Cleveland in 2014 with former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel struggling in his debut season, despite replacing Brian Hoyer late in the campaign.

The Browns finished bottom of the AFC North with a 7-9 win-loss record.

With Hoyer expected to be released, McCown joins Manziel and Connor Shaw as the Browns' QB options for 2015.

Manziel is currently in rehab as he attempts to rid himself of a party-boy reputation.

"Browns agree to terms with QB Josh McCown," the Browns tweeted on Friday.

McCown, 35, has been a journeyman during his 13-year NFL career.

The former Sam Houston State quarterback was a third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2002.

McCown has since played for the Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He also played for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League in 2010.

McCown had a bit of a career resurgence after signing with with the Bears in 2011 following an injury to starter Jay Cutler.

He ended up starting the regular-season finale that year, while he filled in for a concussed Cutler in 2012 and then played extremely well in 2013 with Cutler battling injuries.

McCown finished the 2013 season with 1,829 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and just one interception in five starts.

The veteran then followed coach Lovie Smith to Tampa, but was injured in the third week of the season and eventually lost his starting job to Mike Glennon, while the Bucs limped to a 2-14 record.

The Browns have had 22 starting quarterbacks since the franchise was re-born in 1999, including McCown's younger brother, Luke, who started four games in 2004.
