In the wake of Johnny Manziel entering a treatment facility, the Browns signed Josh McCown as insurance for Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.

DeFilippo joined ESPN 850 WKNR Tuesday to discuss his plan for Manziel to succeed as a professional.

“It’s truly a lifestyle to be an NFL quarterback,” DeFilippo said. “It’s not just a job. It’s all-consuming. You need to sleep, eat, do everything fast and just think about football all the time. The great ones have an obsession with it."

DeFilippo went on to say that the offense Manziel ran at Texas A&M was limited from a protection and route-structure standpoint, leaving a lot of work for the Browns' coaching staff to “take the grey area” out and turn his defensive reads into the “pure progression.”

The first year offensive coordinator assessed the areas where Manziel needs work on and off the field, adding the great quarterbacks in the league are the ones engrossed by the sport.

"You watch the Peyton Mannings and the Drew Brees and the Aaron Rodgers, those guys are obsessed with football. And you talk about quarterback lifestyle, in our very first meeting that’s what we’re going to talk about with those guys,” DeFilippo said.
