New England Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner wants to break the arm of former teammate Richard Sherman when he faces the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

Browner played for the Seahawks last season but missed their maiden NFL championship victory due to a failed drug test, and although he used to share cornerback duties with Sherman, any friendship appears to be over.

The 30-year-old has bounced back with the Patriots this season, playing 11 games, including their two play-off victories to help New England into the Super Bowl, which will be held on Sunday.

Speaking to ESPN on Monday, Browner was asked about Sherman's elbow injury and indicated he would urge his Patriots team-mates to target the outspoken Seahawk.

"I'm going to tell my teammates, 'Go hit that elbow, go hit that shoulder'," Browner said.

"'Try to break it if you can.'"

Sherman's injury is set to be a big issue in the lead-up to this season's NFL decider but he is expected to practice and play in the big game.

Browner did credit him for being tough.

"Those dudes are tough," Browner said.

"Watching the game, you can see Sherman was holding that arm like he had a sling on it."

Seattle free safety Earl Thomas is also dealing with an injury and Browner insisted he would not hold back with such a big prize on the line.

"You are going to be my best friend at the end of the day but I know you want the Super Bowl just as bad as I do," the Patriots man said.
